In 1864, a group of recently freed slaves gathered together knowing that God is. They knew that God is all knowing, all powerful, all present, benevolent, and merciful. They knew because God had delivered them from slavery to freedom. And so, they gathered, in God's name, creating a community of believers in Christ and called themselves, New Bridge Baptist Church.

From the beginning, the members of New Bridge emphasized worship, fellowship and study. Over the years, their commitment and direction evolved into a heritage and tradition firmly anchored on a bedrock of faith, enlightment and service.

As our ancestors worked for God's church, they planned for each tomorrow and built a church for God's eternity. Each succeeding generation accepted the torch passed on to them. Each generation built upon this Christian heritage and tradition so ardently nurtured by our founders.

The torch has been passed on to us. We accept it and declare that we are Working for Today, Planning for Tomorrow, and Building for Eternity.

To meet the challenge of today, we must make real the Gospel of Christ which calls us to meet the spiritual, educational and physical needs of the community of men and women we serve. To do this, New Bridge has been involved with many programs and activities that will establish its foundation for a new vision, a new millineum, a new New Bridge Baptist Church.

New Bridge has recently purchased two parcels of land adjacent on each side of its site to expand and lay the groundwork for the addition and renovation of New Bridge Baptist Church. Part of this land acquisition includes the property and home west of it that has been converted and established as New Bridge Baptist Church Day Care Center.
